Dios Restaura is a hispanic church ministry in Burbank, Ca. We help give them brand new and beautiful web design and a new online identity. We provided them with a Logo to help them be recognized in the “web world” and to be able to use such in letterheads, envelopes, post cards, etc. This is an ongoing project and we are currently working on making their web better in design and content. So it is vital to protect it and more than anything from ourselves. We allow dislike to build up and become hate, appreciation to become Love and every other moral or immoral action to become what it will. So under the telescope today let’s put Integrity.

What is it? How does it come about? How does it affect our daily lives? One definition for it is:

“The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.”

Defined as a quality it gives me the understanding that it must be acquired, lived out and perfected. There are (in my opinion) two types of Integrity; self integrity and that which is projected to others. And I think it’s obvious to say that it is self integrity which is most important. Because if “everything you do flows from*” you heart, than it is there where one must begin.

You see, we cannot go on thinking that if we do something honest or moral it is only for others or for others to see. And if we do I believe that it all has to be done out of what we already carry inside. If you are true to yourself then you will not have any problems with being true to and with others. There’s a saying that says, “He who hides nothing, fears nothing.”

Whether self or projected; Integrity must be true and genuine. If you hold moral uprightness to be part of you life it will reflect on others and what you do for others. Moral values make up Integrity but they have become so misunderstood and misinterpreted. It is easy to say, “You’re young so enjoy life!” Depending on Integrity, that means, “Live it but don’t let its hard times take you down” or – sadly but true – “Do as you please.” And it is here where a vast majority get lost in sex, drugs, greed, etc.

It’s so easy to say “We only live once, so do what your heart desires.” But what about consequences, whether physical, emotional or spiritual? What about “what you reap is what you sow**”? Without a strong sense of morality we follow our foolish desires; foolish moments and decisions that keep us away from an “abundant life***”.

“It’s not what goes in but what comes out****” that makes us loose Integrity. Not what you do out in the open but what you do when no one sees. Examine your life and seek after morality; whether by words, actions or thoughts. What was immoral yesterday did not all of a sudden become moral today. There is a big difference between being free to live and feeling free to do whatever you please…choose wisely.

Yet, the belief in God is only the foundation of our hope or the basis of faith. It gives us purpose, direction and life. But in order to find meaning to our purpose, walk in the right direction and or find true life…faith must be made certain through an encounter with God.

An artist faced with a blank sheet of paper has the talent and ability to turn a vision into a masterpiece. But the bridge between knowing it can be created and creating has to be crossed.

It is only when we experience and understand God’s greatness, beauty and reality that we desire to be in a passionate pursuit of God and make it our life’s destiny to find Him. And this “Experience”; better yet, “Encounter” with God is not a one time event, not merely a moment of genuine worship; let alone an emotion.

Not only does it give our purpose meaning but it gives us a true identity.

An artist can speak of his vision and carry it with him. But it would be foolish for such artist to not bring his vision to reality. Albert Schweitzer once said, “The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives.” Like a foolish artist, many of us carry this truth but rather believe and live by the lies that rob us of our purpose and identity. But an encounter with God brings us to the reality that we are not a body with a soul, but a soul with a body. We were created in the likeness of God. Justified and made righteous or simply put…Redeemed, so that one day we may be glorified as Christ was glorified.

This is a powerful truth; our Creed…the core of our belief in Christ.

But as powerful as it may be I’ve come to realize that if it is not believed, proclaimed and lived out day in and day out, it simply becomes a beautiful thought and or words that simply echo what God has been telling us all along.

Planted within our hearts is the seed of Eternity. An encounter with God plucks out all the weeds, sheds light and breathes oxygen so that, that seed may grow and bear the fruit of an eternity with God…one of which the soul will never tire of…but yearn for.

This is our new a state of mind; the shift in our thinking, in our doing, in our choices…in our hearts. No longer are we to live as if God is limited.

The material world could never meet the needs of our immaterial essence.

Love is not a formula…life is not a cycle. Circumstances should not determine our character and life should not be based on them.

Life is full of purpose, splendor, undeniable love and the most beautiful hope. Yet never does it leave out free will. Never are we forced to love or hate. But the choices we make lead our hearts to one or the other. And still, beyond that…our hearts know there’s more then what is…they seek truth.

Yet it may be circumstances, fear or lack of faith. Either way we allow ourselves to become so complacent…it makes sense to adapt and just be. Or to think that our purpose will be found in the future or in that one thing we’re good at. We see it as a…a great goal to be reached or things to be obtained.

It’s all vanity.

We’re happy one moment in time…mad or sad the other. And we acquire so much, only to loose it all. Purpose is not an event or a series of events or for that matter…bound by time. It is not something far off or something that by itself will bring us happiness. By engaging in it we come to understand that the happiness we desire is not merely a pursuit. It is a state of mind; it is a shift in one’s thinking, in one’s doing, in one’s choices…in one’s heart.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us:

“Above all else, guard your heart for from it flow the wellsprings of life.”

But clearly (looking at the world), that truth is ignored. Our hearts store anger, they plot evil…they lack love. The passion that ignites them slowly dies out…Repetition becomes the norm and it makes sense to adapt and live like all else. But soon enough we come to see that our souls long for more. They yearn to break free from the routine that enslaved their creativity…their Passion and the Desire to wake every given morning and live this adventure called “life”. It’s as if they constantly remind us that temporal values are but an illusion of happiness.

There’s more satisfaction in enjoying what we are given than fighting to obtain what we don’t have.

Out of all of the pursuits in life, nothing will make one feel complete and satisfied as understanding one’s purpose.

…it is life’s central motivation.
